Medicare Payments for Full-Arch Implants
Medicare patients choose our members since they are the ones who can get this treatment subsidy reliably for the patient AND who then take it to market via proven direct to consumer advertising.
If there are significant numbers of Medicare Original Par B patients in your market (as determined via our comprehensive market analysis), we’ll use a combined Full Arch Case + Medicare subsidy advertising message to bring you more cases over other practices seeking cases. If patients can save thousands with a Medicare credentialed provider they will pick that provider over others.
Saving thousands for the patient does not mean seeing lower fees for you as the provider. The procedures billed to Medicare routinely pay 8-10X what traditional dental insurance pays and as restorations are NOT a covered Medicare benefit, you receive your full fee for the case as part of billing for your full arch restorations.
Getting Appropriate Returns
When these patients consider two practices (yours vs. someone else, or yours vs. ClearChoice), they will gravitate to the one where they have substantially less out of pocket cost. Why not have that somebody be you?
It’s up to you on how you use the case subsidy. Here are more ways to think about putting this billing strategy to work to counter competition.
You may use it to meet or beat any other player in your market related to fees while you still get your full fee. Your competitor won’t be getting a net $10K check from Medicare (or $12K if the patient has a private policy that covers their 20% co-pay).
You may use it to make more money per case since the patient will still have less out of pocket cost with you versus anyone else. In essence you can have a slightly higher fee while the patient still pays less out of pocket than they would with a competitor.
You can see higher overall returns on the same advertising spend or reduced total advertising spend since more cases can arrive at lower budgets due to the lack of competition with this message. In fact, when market research is performed we rarely see advertising competition related to Medicare oral/surgery and implants. This is due to the supra-specialized nature of billing these services and that it truly only benefits practices performing both surgery and restorations. This means average GPs can’t benefit and oral surgeons and periodontists who do not have a restorative component in their practice can’t benefit.
